Kilmar House

We are a very small, family run care home on the outskirts of the bustling market town of Liskeard in sunny Cornwall! We are the smallest home in Liskeard registered for those over the age of 65 and we are very passionate about maintaining a family home here.

The house itself was originally built in the 17th Century and is now grade II listed. It has had quite a varied past, at times it has been a private residence, a furniture shop and even a girls finishing school.

There are many beautiful original features such as the double height ceilings, intricate cornice work and arched sash windows. In 1984 the house was converted into a residential care home and has been run as such since.

We bought the home in 2007 and have spent a lot of time restoring and maintaining it. Although we run the home, we believe the home belongs to the residents. We encourage all our residents to treat Kilmar as their own home and try hard to make everyone feel relaxed and comfortable. Moving into a care home can be a daunting and sometimes frightening decision and we do not underestimate this, however we encourage everyone to understand what they will gain by moving into Kilmar House

There is no need for you to lose any of your independence! You are free to come and go as you please, go on holiday and to spend your days as you wish. You can still attend all of your social functions and even host some here if you wish.

You will hopefully create new friendships, not just with other residents but often with our very caring and dedicated staff, as well as taking part in lots of exciting activities and events.

You never need to worry about bills! No more frustration about paying for the heating or the electricity bill. You pay one fee (or this maybe paid for you by social services) and this covers all of your day to day living expenses.

You can still cook and clean if you wish to. Or you can sit back, relax and enjoy our freshly prepared meals and snacks with lots of choice available and you never need to dust or hoover!!

Staff are always on hand to assist you as much or as little as you require and you will be in charge of the care you wish to receive. You have the right to a private space of your own with your own key where you can be without fear or disturbance.

We will order all of your supplies for you, from medication to continence requirements. We can also arrange the full support of the district nurses for you and organise any other equipment that may assist you to live as independently as you wish.
